Our latest featured speaker is Kenneth Masters from Masters Law Group PLLC!

One of our favorite speakers, Kenneth will be returning to speak at our upcoming 3rd Annual Advanced Appellate Conference on September 14, 2018 in Seattle! This will be the third year in a row that Kenneth has spoken at our Annual Advanced Appellate Conferences in Seattle. He has also spoken at every other appellate seminar we have held in Washington over the past ten years. Yes, Ken is that fabulous! Past seminar attendees have said he offers a wealth of information, and that his presentations are at a “masterful guru” level with well-prepared content. We appreciate how engaging he is with our attendees and can’t wait to have him back!

Ken Masters celebrates 26 years of litigating civil appeals in 2018. Ken currently is a Trustee of the Washington State Bar Foundation, and recently substantially revised the Brief Writing chapter in the Appellate Practice Deskbook (WSBA 2017). He previously served as Treasurer and Governor for the Washington State Bar, and has chaired and served on numerous committees for various bar associations, as well as dozens of CLEs on appellate practice, writing, and other areas. Ken is honored to have been listed as a “Top 10” Super Lawyer® Honoree in 2017, and to have received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from America’s Top 100 Attorneys®. He is a Fellow both of the American Bar Foundation and of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.

Our latest featured speaker is Sean Matsler from Cox Castle Nicholson!

We are excited to have Sean on the faculty panel for our upcoming Recreational and Medical Marijuana Law in California conference on November 1-2 in Los Angeles! Sean is a land use partner who focuses on securing entitlements for controversial and complex real estate development projects, and we know our attendees will benefit from the knowledge he has to share!

Sean advises clients on compliance with the myriad local, state and federal laws and regulations that govern the development of real property, including local planning and zoning regulations, the California Coastal Act and the California Environmental Quality Act. Sean guides his clients through the entitlement process, from site selection to project approval, and regularly appears before both state and local administrative bodies to secure approvals on behalf of clients.

Our latest Featured Speaker is LaVonne Lawson from the Law Office of LaVonne Lawson!

We are pleased to have LaVonne on the faculty panel for our upcoming Practical Tax Planning Under the 2017 Tax Act: How to Take Advantage of the Good and Minimize the Bad seminar on July 20th in Los Angeles! LaVonne is an experienced tax attorney, representing individuals and entities in federal and California state tax matters, and we know our attendees will benefit from the knowledge she has to share.

In addition to operating her own practice in Los Angeles, LaVonne is Of Counsel with the law firm, Albrecht & Barney, in Irvine.

She is a former Senior Attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service, where she litigated federal tax cases in the United States Tax Court, worked with Assistant U.S. Attorneys and Department of Justice attorneys in tax cases outside of the Tax Court, and advised revenue agents and revenue officers. She also previously worked with the law firm, Pillsbury Winthrop, where she focused on tax issues involving start-up companies.

LaVonne is the Second Vice-President of the Beverly Hills Bar Association and is a member of Black Women Lawyers Los Angeles. She previously served on the Executive Committee of the California State Bar Taxation Section and is a former Chair of the Taxation Section’s Tax Procedure and Litigation Committee.

Raised in Southern California, LaVonne holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and English from Stanford University and a JD/MBA from Duke University.

Howard has previously spoken at our Advanced Appellate Roundtable in 2013, where seminar attendees raved about his knowledgeability, interesting comments, and respectful demeanor. Howard M. Goodfriend is a principal in the Seattle firm of Smith Goodfriend, P.S., Seattle’s oldest appellate boutique.  Howard has argued hundreds of civil appeals in almost every substantive area of the law, representing individuals, publicly traded companies, small businesses, professionals, hospitals, state and local governments. He is co-editor-in-chief of the Washington State Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Deskbook and author of the Appellate Practice chapter of the King County Bar Association Young Lawyer Division’s Washington Lawyers Practice Manual.  Howard is a Fellow and a director of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, is a founding member and past president of the Washington Appellate Lawyers Association, and has been repeatedly recognized by his peers as one of Washington’s top ten appellate lawyers and top 100 lawyers.

Jennifer Post is a Partner in the Thomas Coburn’s Corporate and Securities practice group. She serves as primary outside counsel to a variety of individuals, institutions and companies, including entrepreneurs, venture capital firms and emerging companies, as well as domestic and international public companies.

Jennifer’s practice encompasses all areas of general corporate and securities law, including private placements of equity and debt securities, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital fund formation. Jennifer advises her company clients in many aspects of their businesses including financings, acquisitions, divestitures, licensing and distribution arrangements, equity compensation and joint ventures and strategic partnerships. We are thrilled to announce our latest featured speaker, Bhaskar Krishnamachari, from the USC Viterbi Center for Cyber-Physical Systems and the Internet of Things!

At our upcoming Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain & Initial Coin Offerings program on June 22nd in Los Angeles, Bhaskar will be speaking about: How it all works, Coins v. Tokens, ERC-20, Blockchain, Key Applications and alt-coins.

Bhaskar Krishnamachari did his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at The Cooper Union in New York City, and got his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. He is currently a Professor of Engineering at USC, and serves as the Director of the USC Viterbi Center for Cyber-Physical Systems and the Internet of Things. He is an academic researcher working on the Internet of Things, Blockchain Technologies, Wireless Networks, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, Machine Learning and AI, Edge Computing, Network Economics, and Distributed Robotics. He has authored/co-authored two books and more than 300 technical publications, that have together received more than 23000 citations and several best paper awards. He was listed in MIT Technology Reviews TR-35 list of 35 top innovators under 35 in 2011 and Popular Science’s Brilliant 10 in 2015.

Our latest Featured Speaker is Sheila Oretsky from Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney!

Sheila is a new speaker this year and she is set to speak at our 7th Annual Circuit Court & Litigation Boot Camp in Fort Lauderdale on June 1, 2018. Sheila is a trial attorney who focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation matters that span a variety of industries. From entertainment, real estate and healthcare, to construction, condominium associations and hotels, her experience also includes money transmitters, professional services, moving and mobile storage, automobile dealerships and audio/visual services. We know our attendees will benefit from the knowledge she has to share, and we are happy to have her speak for us!

Sheila successfully defended a $14 million commercial foreclosure trial and successfully prosecuted the counterclaim for declaratory relief in that action that went to trial for over 4 days. She has handled matters involving partnership and business disputes, commercial foreclosures, civil theft, breach of contract, civil fraud, motor vehicle dealership law, consumer fraud, bank litigation, commercial landlord/tenant disputes, condominium law and public adjuster compliance nationwide. Sheila also has experience in assisting clients with general corporate and contractual matters.

Sheila has been selected for inclusion in Florida Trend’s Legal Elite 2010 as a top “Up and Comer” and was selected by her peers as an honoree for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s 40 Under 40 Outstanding Lawyers of Miami-Dade County Award in 2012. She was also selected as one of the Top 14 Lawyers to Watch in 2014 by Attorney at Law Magazine and named a Rising Star in Business Litigation by Super Lawyers in 2016.

Our latest Featured Speaker is Chaya Mandelbaum from Rudy, Exelrod, Zieff & Lowe!

One of our favorite speakers, Chaya will be speaking yet again at our 14th Annual Federal Court Boot Camp in San Francisco on May 18, 2018. For the past four years in a row, Mr. Mandelbaum has spoken at our Federal Court Boot Camps.  Seminar attendees have told us they appreciate Chaya’s great speaking style and engaging presentations, and we love how easy he is to work with and the terrific handouts he provides our attendees.

Chaya M. Mandelbaum is a Partner at Rudy, Exelrod, Zieff & Lowe, LLP where he represents employees in individual and class action litigation and negotiations across the spectrum of employment law. He has extensive experience in wage and hour, discrimination, retaliation, harassment and leave of absence matters.

Mr. Mandelbaum also serves as Chair of the California Fair Employment and Housing Council.  He was appointed to the position by California Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. and his appointment was confirmed by the California Senate.  The Council promulgates regulations related to employment and housing discrimination.  It also holds hearings on civil rights issues confronting the state.

Mr. Mandelbaum is a Contributing Editor of The Rutter Group’s California Practice Guide: Employment Litigation and is a Co-Author of the Employment Law chapter of The Recorder’s California Business Litigation book.  He previously served as a Member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California’s Labor and Employment Law Section.

Before joining Rudy, Exelrod, Zieff & Lowe, Mr. Mandelbaum was a Senior Litigation Counsel at Sanford Heisler.  At Sanford Heisler, he represented employees in class actions involving wage and hour, discrimination and other civil rights claims.

Previously, Mr. Mandelbaum was a Trial Attorney in the Office of the Solicitor for the United States Department of Labor.  In that capacity, he successfully represented the Secretary of Labor in numerous significant enforcement actions, including a multi-million dollar wage and penalty recovery based on violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.  He obtained successful results in both jury and bench trials during his tenure.  As a result, Mr. Mandelbaum was a recipient of the 2011 Federal Executive Board’s Service Award and the 2011 Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement Award.

Prior to his tenure at the Department of Labor, Mr. Mandelbaum worked in the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, where he represented employers in matters involving wage and hour, employment discrimination and labor relations.

Mr. Mandelbaum is a graduate, cum laude, of the University of Michigan Law School. He received his undergraduate education at the University of California, San Diego.

Stephanie has extensive experience in complex business litigation, product liability litigation, and breach of fiduciary duty claims, and we are excited to have her speak!

Stephanie Sperber has handled cases in state and federal courts, and appellate courts across the country and was selected by Super Lawyers Magazine as a Rising Star for the years 2007, 2008 and 2013 through 2018. This honor is reserved for the top 2.5% of lawyers in Southern California under the age of 40, and is rated by peers.
