AI and the Practice of Law [Two-Part Webinar] (Watch Live or via OnDemand Streaming)

As we all know, everyone is talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its use throughout all aspects of society.  And many bar associations and CLE companies have done short overview programs on the topic of AI.

This seminar is different. During this program we take more time so we can provide a more in-depth look at how AI is impacting the legal field across the board and specifically how you and your firm can use AI in your own legal practices.

Before getting into how you can use it, your faculty – all experts in the use of AI – will provide an introduction to AI. They’ll demystify the various terms (and there are many), types of AI, bias and how businesses and your clients are generally using AI.

Next your faculty will give an overview of which legal practice areas have been most impacted by the use of AI, and why.  After that, for those litigators in the audience and those that are curious, a California judge who is steeped in the use of AI at the courts will give you a quick overview of how AI is impacting, and being used by, the courts.  All of the above is covered in Part 1 on October 29.

During Part 2, on October 30th, we focus on the “how-to.”  Attorneys who are currently using AI, or are managing how it is used by other attorneys at their law firms, will go in-depth into how attorneys can effectively and ethically use AI to their advantage in their law practices and at their firms.  This session will cover topics such as:

  • What products are out there and what do they do? What are their strengths and weaknesses? The pros and cons of using them?
  • What are the practical options available to practicing attorneys to use AI
  • Using AI to draft documents
  • Using AI to summarize large amounts of data
  • AI and ESI
  • How can AI assist in legal decision-making?
  • How can AI assist in risk assessment?
  • Using AI for legal research – pros and cons
  • Additional advice on how best to make use of the technology
  • What skills are necessary to use AI in a beneficial way?
  • How do you train your attorneys to use AI?

After learning how you can harness AI to your advantage as an attorney or law firm, next you will learn what you have to consider – and do – when using AI. This session will specifically cover essential issues you need to know such as:

  • Security and Privacy
    • Laws
    • Risks
  • Best Practices
  • Confidentiality
  • Developing firm policies
  • Client disclosure
  • How has/can AI affect the hiring of new associates
  • Best practices
  • Record-keeping

Finally, no AI and the law program is complete without an ethics expert laying out the ethical consequences of your actions, developing federal laws, and what you have to do to comply with the rules of ethics and shield yourself from charges of ethical misconduct.  This session also discusses what you need to consider related to your firm’s fee agreements when using AI.

There are not a lot of in-depth programs discussing AI in the legal field and covering all of the topics above. Anyone who is using AI, or wondering how they or attorneys in their firm can use AI, will benefit from this program.  We will demystify AI, we will answer your questions, and by the end of both days you will have a much better idea about AI and the practice of law and how you can benefit from it, as well as avoid using it incorrectly and risking ethical issues.
