🔍 What You’ll Learn:

This one-part program delivers a start-to-finish trial skills training designed to help attorneys understand not just what to do at trial—but how judges expect it to be done. Whether you are preparing for your first trial or looking to sharpen and modernize your approach, this program provides clear guidance, strategic insight, and real-world courtroom perspective.

Throughout both sessions, judges comment from the bench, offering candid feedback on what works, what fails, and the common mistakes that can undermine even a well-prepared case. Their commentary, combined with instruction from seasoned trial lawyers, gives attendees a rare opportunity to learn trial practice from both decision-makers and advocates.

The program begins by focusing on the critical pre-trial groundwork that shapes the entire case. Attendees learn how judges evaluate pretrial readiness, how to approach key filings and submissions, and how early preparation decisions affect credibility, efficiency, and trial outcomes. Faculty emphasize strategic planning, organization, and preparation—areas where newer attorneys often struggle and experienced attorneys appreciate a reset.

From there, the program moves into jury-focused strategy, addressing how jury-related decisions influence trial themes, pacing, and persuasion. Attendees gain practical insight into navigating jury procedures, managing courtroom dynamics, and responding effectively to real-time issues that arise once jurors are seated.

Preserving issues for appeal is woven into the discussion, with a dedicated focus on mistakes trial lawyers commonly make that jeopardize the record. This segment helps attendees understand how trial decisions today can shape—or sink—an appeal tomorrow.

Part Two shifts squarely into trial execution, offering detailed guidance on presenting evidence, handling objections, and conducting effective witness examinations. Faculty break down how to approach direct and cross-examinations strategically, how to prepare witnesses properly, and how to avoid missteps that judges see repeatedly in the courtroom.

Attendees then receive focused instruction on opening statements and closing arguments, including how to distinguish their purposes, communicate effectively with a jury, and reinforce trial themes from start to finish. Demonstrations and commentary help bring these concepts to life.

The program concludes with a look at post-trial considerations, giving attendees a clearer understanding of what happens after the verdict and how post-trial decisions can impact the final outcome of a case.

This is a practical, courtroom-focused program that prioritizes judgment, strategy, and execution—backed by insight from judges and experienced trial lawyers. Attorneys leave with a stronger understanding of trial mechanics, sharper instincts, and greater confidence in their ability to handle cases from pre-trial through post-trial proceedings.
