Harry Chamberlain is our latest Featured Speaker!

Our latest featured speaker is Harry Chamberlain from Buchalter!

Harry first spoke for us back in 2012, and has spoken every year since then at our appellate and insurance related programs.

Harry is next speaking at our upcoming Bad Faith Insurance Litigation in CA program on April 16 & 18, 2024. Harry is a joy to work with and attendees love his presentations. He is one of our regular faculty members, most recently speaking at our 9th Annual Advanced Appellate Practice program, Exam Prep: Appellate Law Certified Legal Specialist Exam (Civil), and our 8th Annual Advanced Appellate Practice (CA).

Thank you for joining us again, Harry! We know it is a lot of work to prepare a good presentation and materials and we appreciate you coming back over and over again!

Harry Chamberlain is a Shareholder of Buchalter, an Am Law 150 firm, with 11 offices across the Western U.S. For over 40 years, he has served as trial and appellate counsel on behalf of Fortune 500 companies, and a variety of public and private sector clients in complex litigation matters. He is certified as an Appellate Specialist by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization, handling hundreds of appeals around the country, including numerous cases before the California Supreme Court and the highest courts of other states.

Before joining Buchalter, Harry was general counsel for California based professional liability insurers and managed the law department of a national group of commercial insurance and financial service companies. He is past president of California Defense Counsel and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, preeminent associations of civil defense trial and appellate lawyers. He writes and lectures widely on topics regarding complex litigation and insurance law.

Philip Talmadge is our latest Featured Speaker!

Phil first spoke for us at our Advanced Appellate Roundtable in Seattle back in 2013 and then again in 2016.  As a former Washington State Supreme Court justice, Phil offers attendees great insight, which was very much appreciated by them.

Coming up, Phil will be at our 2nd Annual Appellate Conference to share his unique perspective.  Thanks, Phil for coming back to speak again and again – we all appreciate it!

Phil Talmadge is a former Washington Supreme Court Justice.

He is a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and the Washington State Appellate Lawyers Association.  Phil has been named Super Lawyer in Washington Law & Politics and was a Washington State Senator.

He practices exclusively in the areas of Appellate Law and Attorney Ethics.  Phil received his B.A. from Yale University and his J.D. from the University of Washington and has been an attorney since 1976.

Efrat Cogan is our latest Featured Speaker!

Effie first spoke for us at our first Appellate Law Specialist Exam Prep Course in 2013 and again in 2015.  Effie is highly experienced in appellate law and provides valuable insight for our attendees.

Recently Effie spoke at our Advanced Appellate Program in Los Angeles.  Coming up, Effie will be speaking at our Appellate Law Specialist Exam Prep program coming up in Los Angeles.

Ms. Cogan is a California State Bar Certified Appellate Specialist.

Efrat M. Cogan is Senior Counsel in the firm’s Litigation and Appellate Practice Groups in Los Angeles. Ms. Cogan is certified as an Appellate Specialist by the California State Bar of Legal Specialization. Her practice areas encompass appellate, real estate and construction, copyright and unfair competition, class actions, professional liability, governmental and constitutional law.

Ms. Cogan has written “Executive Nonacquiescence: Problems of Statutory Interpretation and Separation of Powers,” 60 Southern California Law Review 1143, 1987. She has contributed to the California Municipal Law Handbook, published by the California League of Cities, and has co-authored “The ‘Empire’ Strikes Back: Effective Use of the False Claims Act” (2005).

Ms. Cogan has been selected as one of Southern California’s Super Lawyers nine times (2004-2006 and 2008-2013) and was also selected as a Southern California Super Lawyer, Corporate Counsel Edition from 2009 to 2010. She currently serves on the California State Bar’s Advisory Commission.

Ms. Cogan earned her J.D. at the University of Southern California, where she was a staff member and articles editor for the Law Review and graduated Order of the Coif. She received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Congratulations to the Hon. Kira Klatchko

Congratulations to one of our favorite speakers, and my friend, Judge Kira Klatchko, sworn in to serve on the Riverside Superior Court just a bit ago!

Photo: Judge Klatchko is second from the right in the photo. I’m not quite sure how I (Faith) ended up in the middle of this photo – it was Judge Klatchko’s day! That’s Lead Appellate Court Attorney for the California Appellate Court Pablo Drobny on the far right and on the left is frequent speaker and appellate attorney Extraordinaire, Ben Shatz with his wife Meena Patel.

Previously, Judge Klatchko was a partner at Lewis Brisbois and handled both state and federal appeals arising from all areas of civil practice for clients as varied as cities, businesses and families. She was vice chair of the firm’s national Appellate Practice Litigation group. And she has served as the President of the Riverside County Bar Association.

Judge Klatchko is also an Appellate Law Specialist, certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.

 

Pablo Drobny is the Featured Speaker!

Pablo Drobny is this week’s Featured Speaker at Pincus Professional Education. Pablo has spoken at our appellate and writ related seminars since 2006. Wow! We all love Pablo and he is one of the most respected attorneys working for the California Appellate Court in California. In fact, Pablo is known as the Writs guru throughout the state.

Pablo is a speaker who always sends us detailed outlines and handouts weeks in advance of our deadlines, for which we are always grateful.

Most importantly, at least for our seminars, is that Pablo is universally loved by our attendees – attendees frequently mention that they learned so much from him that they think he should be invited to all of our programs (which of course he is).

Pablo Drobny has been a Judicial Attorney for the California Court of Appeal, Second Judicial District, since 1983. Mr. Drobny is a writ specialist and has authored various legal articles on civil and criminal law practice, is a frequent lecturer and panelist on appellate law and procedure, and is past Chair of the California Judicial Attorneys Education Committee. Mr. Drobny received a B.A. degree with highest honors from Johns Hopkins University, and a J.D. degree cum laude from Harvard Law School.
